Bichectomy

Bichectomy is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing the extension of cheek fat located in the midface. This fat pad stretches from the temple area to the cheek. Deciding on surgery requires careful consideration. Hence, a thorough examination of the case is necessary to determine the patient’s suitability for the procedure.

The Operation

Typically, bichectomy is performed under local anesthesia. Through a small incision made inside the mouth, the ‘excessive and herniated’ portion of the cheek fat pad is removed. Thinning occurs from the cheekbones to the jawline. As it is conducted under local anesthesia, patients are discharged on the same day.

Please Note

Enlargement of the face and cheeks doesn’t solely result from the Buccal fat pad. Therefore, in many cases, reducing this fat pad doesn’t necessarily lead to thinning. The size of the lower face also depends on factors like the position of the chin tip, the volume of the chewing muscle (masseter), the jawbone structure, and the subcutaneous fat tissue anatomy.

In most cases of patients seeking bichectomy, I avoid unnecessary surgeries. In such instances, the desired effect can often be achieved through methods like jaw tip filler application or masseter botox application.
