Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure for removing excess fat tissue from specific areas of the body through a vacuum. However, even though many people perceive liposuction as a weight-loss method, it is important to note that this is a misconception. Liposuction is not a weight-loss operation; rather, it is a contour-improvement procedure.

To achieve successful results with liposuction, it is essential to assess the patient’s health condition, as well as factors such as skin elasticity and weight, to ensure compatibility for the procedure. The amount of fat to be removed from the patient should ideally be around 5% of their total weight.

For instance, removing 3.5 or 4 liters of fat tissue from someone who is 25 kg overweight may not yield significant results for the patient’s body, leading to potential dissatisfaction. On the other hand, removing such an amount of fat tissue from someone who is 10 kg overweight could result in a slimming effect of about 2 sizes.

The duration of the liposuction procedure varies from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of the operation. Following the treatment, it is recommended to use a compression garment for approximately 3 to 4 weeks, as it helps reduce swelling more rapidly.

The operation should be conducted in a fully equipped hospital. The length of the hospital stay and the time required to return to one’s social life depend on the scope of the procedure. Despite its reputation for being a painful procedure, liposuction has become significantly more comfortable in recent times.
